How to Care for Cut Roses

Recut rose stems, remove underwater leaves and guard petals if they are bruised, then keep the vase cool and clean.

1. Recut stems and remove leaves below the waterline.
2. Peel only damaged outer guard petals — do not strip the flower.
3. Use flower food and change water every one to two days.
4. If a head droops, recut and check water freshness before assuming the rose is over.

Fragrance and vase life vary by cultivar. Garden roses may open faster than tight hybrid teas.
