How to Care for Cut Roses
Recut rose stems, remove underwater leaves and guard petals if they are bruised, then keep the vase cool and clean.
- Recut stems and remove leaves below the waterline.
- Peel only damaged outer guard petals — do not strip the flower.
- Use flower food and change water every one to two days.
- If a head droops, recut and check water freshness before assuming the rose is over.
Fragrance and vase life vary by cultivar. Garden roses may open faster than tight hybrid teas.
